I disagree with your notion that the mainstreams are just clueless.
This video was pieced together from various articles, including WaPo and NYT. It also takes pieces from the congressional record, etc. This is very public info, it is factual. And didn't take long for someone to make a YouTube video.

is simply a compilation of CSPAN tape of congressional hearings. It is the most damning thing of all. A laundry list of Democrats sarcastically thrashing a regulator who dared report that Fannie was going down the shoot. Barney Frank, Maxine Walters and others playing politics with the Treasury. These tapes come from the congressional debate on proposed Bush reforms, which was ultimately killed on a party line by the Democrats.
The mainstreams know all this. The information is just too readily available - and obvious. The issue is just too big to have been ignored. Its taped Congressional hearings with smoking gun comments for Christ sake. This is a coverup of monumental proportions, and perhaps the greatest derilection of journalistic integrity I have seen in my lifetime.
