The Classic Liberal Blog can be a tough place at times.  There's simply no sticking to the party line here, regardless of what "party" that may be.

The time and effort put into this blog isn't about supporting the Republican Party, the Libertarian Party, the Constitution Party, or any other "party" you can think up.  This blog was started to CHALLENGE the status quo ... whichever "status quo" that may be ... Republican, Libertarian, everything ...

Why?

Because as a culture, we Americans have become too PC in many more ways than traditionally thought.  Republicans (the voters) are the ...

President George W. Bush:

While I've certainly called out President George W. Bush on his policies, and will continue to do so, I've never thought of him as an evil man.  In my opinion, he's just a bad politician who is too quick to take bad advice.

Policy is policy.  It matters not where it comes from.  All the good intentions in the world can't turn bad policy good.  And GWB, from the prescription drug benefit to the bailouts, has supported/enacted policies of pure economic disaster.

That said, there is a side of Bush we don't get to see or hear very often ... his non-politician, human side.  Whether you love the guy, hate the guy, or are seeing a shrink ...

What could be as evil as sneaking a memorial to the 9/11 terrorists onto the Flight 93 crash site? How about sneaking a hidden message of Islamic indoctrination into the soundtrack of an adorable baby doll, repeated every 30 seconds to thousands of 2-5 year old girls without parental knowledge?

If you haven’t heard it before, check out this AP video from October:

If Mattel wants to sell a doll that Muslim parents can use to brainwash their own toddlers, ...

Any discussion concerning "What is Classical Liberalism" is incomplete without a reading of Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr.'s article An American Classical Liberalism.

Lew Rockwell, a student and colleague of Murray Rothbard, served as Ron Paul's congressional chief of staff from 1978 until 1982, when he then founded the Mises Institute in Auburn Alabama, serving as its president.

As one of the most important thinkers of our time, Lew is the author of Speaking of Liberty, available from the Mises Institute as an ebook here, or in hard copy here. He also manages his own website, which includes among its various topics anarcho-capitalism, Austrian economics, cultural conservatism, and why to be anti-war.

You might just want to read this more than once!

Speech is either free from restraint, or it isn't.  There is no middle ground.  We (you, I) either defend free speech, or we don't.  Again, there is no middle ground.  And sometimes defending free speech, means defending those with whom we disagree.

Personally, I do not believe in bi-partisanship.  You either believe in something or you don't.  In fact, I believe the "bi-partisanship myth" that Washington and its politicians spew is mere propaganda, designed to allow politicians to get away with legislating against the will of their constituents.

The reason I bring this up, is because defending the free speech of those we oppose, is NOT bi-partisanship, and shouldn't be confused as such.  Free speech is about liberty. And when a little bit of speech gets muted, all of us (even if we disagree with said speech), lose a little more liberty.

Merry Christmas!

Please enjoy a few minutes from one of my favorite childhood Christmas specials!

Being a typical late shopper, I had to run out and pick up a few more things yesterday, being that today is Christmas Eve and tomorrow is Christmas.

Thanks to the global warming that Prophet Algore continually preaches, we got an extra foot or so of snow, dragging my "quick trip" to the store, into a very long, boring day.
editor's note: if my above reference to Christmas offended you in any way, the only thing I can tell you is ... grow-up, get a backbone ... you're way too sensitive.  Keep a stiff upper lip, and get over it!

Was that sensitive enough for you?

Oh ... laugh a little ... will you?  Besides, there's a lesson in this post for everyone!

Food for Thought

After spending way too much time reading throughout the blogosphere this weekend, I thought I'd share with you a few posts that might peak your interest.

The Puritans:

"Political correctness" has gone way to far on both sides of the aisle and everywhere in between.  I mean, everyone is offended by everything!

In her recent column, Mona Charen complains about the "pornification of society," using an ad for PajamaGrams that claims to be "the only gift guaranteed to get your wife or girlfriend to take her clothes off."
