Rush Notes:

Really, nothing to add here.  Rush Limbaugh spells it out perfectly.

Why Rush is no longer a Republican, reasons #247 and 248 (emphasis added):

Here is reason 247 why I am not a Republican: "Republican governors, battling climate change in their states and fed up with the GOP's inability to organize in Washington, are urging their congressional colleagues to start the new Congress with unprecedented dedication to addressing global warming." Ladies and gentlemen, have you seen the headlines out there today? ... Chicago is the coldest it's been in a decade. Flint, Michigan, breaks its 95-year-old record for cold ... If you're planning on flying today, the whole air traffic control system from the Midwest to the east is going to be backed up because of these delays in New York City. GOP governors urge action on global warming in the midst of a deep freeze! It's just a huge disconnect. In fact, what do they want to do? They want to make it colder? That's what the objective of global warming is, is to make it colder, is it not? If we had a genuine ice age descend upon us, would they then tell us to increase our carbon emissions?

It was interesting to hear the "Ron Paul Question" asked at the Americans for Tax Reform-sponsored debate for chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC). Even more so, were the candidates answers to the question.

Video and analysis below the fold.

The Question: In light of the success of Ron Paul and the Campaign for Liberty in attracting large numbers of activists to the Ron Paul campaign and to conservative causes, what have you done to reach out to Ron Paul voters, and what will you do as chairman to make sure that the Ron Paul voters remain or become Republican voters?

Y’all like that spaghetti western music? Here is a classic.

The Origin of Rights

theCL  2009-01-13  Philosophy, Rights  2 Comments

Today's post consists of a 5-part video series on the origin of rights, and the proper role of government. And I've gotta tell ya, this production by STOPandLOOK is outstanding!

Today, the simple idea of freedom vs. State power has been confused and altered in too many ways.  Do a quick search on the net, and you'll find countless "political quizzes," all attempting to place you somewhere on a scale consisting of both horizontal and vertical lines.  Do another search looking for political definitions, and you'll find a countless number of people, all with different definitions of the same terminology.

This video series simplifies it all, by explaining everything in an easy, understandable way.

Whether you consider yourself conservative, liberal, Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, right-wing, left-wing ... do yourself a favor, and take the time to watch the whole series.

You'll be glad you did!

The New & Improved Republican Party!

theCL  2009-01-11  Election Campaign, Op-Ed  Comments Off

I'm sure all you political junkies out there have been watching the Republican Party as it attempts to rebuild itself after suffering significant losses in both the last 2 election cycles.  Some of it probably even gives you a bit of hope.

And it should, because what's life without hope?  Just misery.

As a person who's been a registered-Republican since the day he signed his voter registration card, I hope they turn it around too, but then again, without philosophy ... in other words, absent voters who hold strong convictions based on liberty, who are not beholden to a particular political party ... what do "we the people" actually win, when the Republican Party starts winning elections again?

Now is the Time for Bi-partisanship

theCL  2009-01-10  Government, Op-Ed  Comments Off

Yeah ... right.

The following video sums up bi-partisanship perfectly, but before you make the jump, let me get out my decoder for further explanation.

Bi-partisanship:

Washington-speak: We're going to put our differences aside and work together to get things done.

Decoded: We don't give a rats behind what you so-called "we the people" think.  We're going to do whatever we think will best entrench our power at your cost.

Today will be spent trying to recover from the loss of data experienced here at theCL. You'd think I'd learn ... back-up, back-up, BACK-UP!

So before I head into the abyss of coding, attempting to rebuild the categories and other various lost stuff, I'd like to bring to your attention, 4 good reads from across the fruited internet.

1. With the federal budget deficit at $1.2 trillion (crazy, isn't it?), President-elect Barack Obama has promised:

"We are committed to changing the way our government in Washington does business so that we're no longer squandering billions of tax dollars on programs that have outlived their usefulness or exist solely because of the power of a lobbyist or an interest group... Even in good times, Washington can't afford to continue these bad practices. In bad times, it's absolutely imperative that Washington stop them and restore confidence that our government is on the side of taxpayers and everyday Americans."

Tinfoil Hats and Black Helicopters

tinfoil-hatsYou know, I've gotta tell ya ... I'm the last guy who wishes to don a tinfoil-hat and start watching out my windows in fear of black helicopters, but (oh, there's that word, theCL's about to go off the deep end) ...

As I've said to many of my friends over the past few months, "The conspiracy theorists stars have aligned!"

Yes, there's certainly a lot of jest in that statement, however, it sure is hard to argue against them these days.  Isn't it?  Yes, weird ...
