The Great Hoax of 2008

crisis-and-leviathanH/T to LibertyKnight for sending me this link!

Robert Higgs, author of the excellent book Crisis and Leviathan, has written a MUST READ article concerning the Financial Crisis of just a few months ago, the crisis that ultimately led to the federal government effectively taking control of a significant portion of the U.S. economy.

I first read "Crisis and Leviathan" in one of my college economics classes, you know, back in the day when learning econ required understanding more than today's Leftist government talking points.  Amazingly, waaaay back then, in the early 1990's, instead of political indoctrination, we just plain had to learn economics.  Seems like so long ago ...

Are you ready?

Are you ready for "The One's" vision of change?

We're heading into uncharted waters here in the old U.S. of A.  The Democrats are readying their greedy little hands for their new power, and POWER is the key word.

I wonder what they'll try with the increased executive powers George W. Bush gave them?

Let's take a look at just 3 key "changes" coming our way.  Shall we?

Although I haven't written much about it yet, there's a reason "open source" is one of the categories here on The Classic Liberal Blog. While too many people and/or industries continue to focus on old (though often "tried and true") business models, even as their results continue to get worse and worse ... open source is quietly changing the economics of our time.

This of course, doesn't mean that the common sense wisdom of economics, most notably Austrian economics, is changing.  But it does mean that how individuals and/or companies interact and exchange with one another IS changing.

A quick personal anecdote, plus a disturbing video.
Disclaimer: Kids, do not try this yourself.  It won't work out so well for you.

About a year ago, running late as always, I was driving through a miserable snow storm on my way into my office.  Now it had been snowing hard for about 48 hours, and late the night before, while pulling out of one of those carport things, I slid and knocked my driver's side mirror off.  Anyways ...

Closing in on two hours for a normally 20 minute drive, I pulled into the left-hand lane to turn into the office parking lot.  The left-turn to the parking lot just happens to be right before an intersection, so often, cars get lined up behind me.  On this occasion, a police car pulled in behind me.  No big deal.

I pulled in, parked my car, gathered up my phone, keys, and briefcase, and got out of the car.  As I turned to walk into the building, I noticed the cop had pulled in right behind me, turned on his lights ... and then he starts barking through his loudspeaker, "Get back in the car!  Get back in the car now!"

Now that 2008 has come and gone ... Barack Obama has been elected our next president, the incompetence of Congress (with the help of the Federal Reserve) has created a massive financial scare, and thanks to the prodding of President Bush, Congress has virtually nationalized the financial, auto, newspaper, on and on, industries ... but there is still hope!

Our political landscape has never been more threatening ... The Democratic and Republican Parties have gone socialist, and with so many convinced that "we the people" only have them as our only two choices ... it's easy to loose heart, raise the white flag, prepare for the worst ... and forget how good we have it in America.

As you all know, President Bush cranked-up the printing press yet again, this time for the UAW, uh, er, I mean ... to assist the auto industry. We also know that the UAW has lost $23 million over the past 5 years alone, on a private golf course ......

Happy New Year!
