A Magician and the Swine Flu

swine-fluMaybe I've become a little too skeptical.  Maybe I'm wrong.  But this whole swine flu "scare" thing really, it's not grabbing me.  It's just that, you know ... "sleight-of-hand" keeps popping into mind.

The Democrats sure had other things on their mind this past weekend, as they worked out the details on their proposed $3.5 trillion FY 2010 budget bill.

Oh, and by the way ... no Republicans were invited to participate.

As reported by Nancy Thorner at American Thinker:

Congressional leaders and the White House are spending the weekend hammering out final details of the proposed $3.5 trillion FY 2010 budget bill, with no Republican input, in a push toward final approval of the 2010 budget proposal by Wednesday. This would give President Obama something to crow about on Wednesday, when he plans to enumerate to the American people, during prime time, his accomplishments in 100 days in office.

Look! Over here! It's the Pandemic Pig Flu!

A Moderate History of the G.O.P. Part 4

A Moderate History of the GOP 1
A Moderate History of the GOP 2
A Moderate History of the GOP 3

One thing this series has pointed out so far (I hope), is that "the more things change, the more they stay the same." Let's face it, the "conservatives are bad / moderates are good" mantra has been around for a long, long time. Both in the party and media.

This segment of the series is short. Simply watch the following quick video about the Goldwater campaign.  My favorite ...

So what's going on out there ...

Hey, look! Over here!  In this hand! Those "evil" Republicans are to blame for the swine flu! You know ... high school social politics are more mature than are national politics in America today.

From my position... on the way reports the gummints new and improved diversity program. And while you're over there, make sure to check out those tank rounds!

Speaking of rounds ... the Obama Administration is preparing its backdoor fascist gun-grab!

Should the Senate ratify CIFTA, Americans who reload ammunition would be required to get a license from the government, and factory guns and ammunition would be priced almost out of existence due to governmental requirements to "mark" each one manufactured. Even the simple act of adding an after-market piece of equipment to a firearm, such as a scope or bipod, or reassembling a gun after cleaning it could fall into the category of "illicit manufacturing" of firearms and require government license and oversight.

What is money?money

Money, get back.
I'm all right jack keep your hands off of my stack.
Money, its a hit.
Don't give me that do goody good bullshit.
I'm in the high-fidelity first class traveling set
And I think I need a Lear jet.

Money, its a crime.
Share it fairly but don't take a slice of my pie.
Money, so they say
Is the root of all evil today.

Many moons ago, people would trade goods and services by exchange (barter).  I'd fix your fence, and you'd give me a bushel of wheat.  You'd give me a pig, and I'd give you a cow.  In other words, just a straight-up trade.  This however, wasn't very practical.

For example, I may want to buy a loaf of bread from you, but only have a cow to exchange.  You'd like to sell me the loaf of bread, but you need shoes for your horse.  So in order to make trading with each other more efficient, a medium of exchange was developed - money.

Something Called the National Debt

Our national debt is currently the highest its ever been in history.  Not counting the legacy costs of Social Security and Medicare, the national debt is over $11 trillion!

How did this happen? The politicos in Washington (the 545), seem to have little (if any) respect for the taxpayers who are on the hook for this debt (and a few are probably just naive), so they just spend and spend and spend!

David M. Walker, former Comptroller General of the United States and head of the GAO, has created a documentary titled "I.O.U.S.A." I watched the entire film the other night and I must say, this should be mandatory viewing for every person in America! And in every school's curriculum!

This is a very important film.

The movie explains the national debt, foreign trade deficits, our decrease in personal savings, how the prime interest rate works, and the politics of it all ...  The United States is broke, and probably going bankrupt in our lifetime.   This is the most important issue of our time.

Go get this movie and watch it! At the very least, please take the time to watch the byte-sized (30 min) version below the fold.

Milwaukee Police Chief vs. the Second Amendment

well-oiled-civil-rightsWisconsin attorney general J.B. Van Hollen affirmed in a memorandum to prosecutors on Monday that it's legal to openly carry a gun on the street in Wisconsin, and also advised prosecutors that merely having a gun doesn't, by itself, warrant a disorderly conduct charge.

In reality, there are limited locations where it is legal to openly carry a gun. Prohibitions against carrying in school zones, public buildings, and businesses with liquor licenses for example, remain in place.

One of the biggest problems facing America today is obesity. Childhood obesity needs to be dealt with to prevent future health risks.

Should we be shaming obese children more?

Also, a recent survey conducted by the American Center for Sleep Research found that nearly 40% of all dreams contain graphic images of violence.
