Gasp! What kind of title is that?
For starters, let me state clearly that I am pro-life. I believe life is a gift to be honored, and not a mere inconvenience.
That said, I believe the group American Right To Life is more interested in Statism than life. Here's why ...
Instead of supporting politicians who are firmly pro-life and want to overturn Roe v. Wade, they prefer politicians who pay lip-service to the pro-life constituency, and also demand nothing less than a dictate from our Washington Overlords.
For example, they recently attacked Texas Representative Ron Paul.
ARTL Questions Ron Paul's Pro-life Credentials
ProlifeProfiles.com, created by a nationwide research team working for American Right To Life, today is publishing their dossier on Ron Paul and his surprisingly dismal record on abortion.
For the record, Ron Paul is the ONLY politician in Washington who has never wavered in his support for the unborn, as well as the only politician with a principled, constitutional plan for overturning Roe v. Wade!
I have become increasingly concerned over the years that the pro-life movement I so strongly support is getting further off track, both politically and morally. I sponsored the original pro-life amendment, which used a constitutional approach to solve the crisis of federalization of abortion law by the courts. The pro-life movement was with me and had my full support and admiration.
Those who cherish unborn life have become frustrated by our inability to overturn or significantly curtail Roe v. Wade. Because of this, attempts were made to fight against abortion using political convenience rather than principle. There is nothing wrong per se with fighting winnable battles, but a danger exists when political pragmatism requires the pro-life movement to surrender important moral and political principles.
When we surrender constitutional principles, we do untold damage to the moral underpinnings on which our Constitution and entire system of government rest. Those underpinnings are the inalienable right to life, liberty, and property. Commenting upon the link between our most important rights, Thomas Jefferson said “The God which gave us life gave us at the same time liberty. The hands of force may destroy but can never divide these.” - Rep. Ron Paul, Pro-Life Action Must Originate from Principle
Ron Paul endorsed by Jane Roe, yes, THAT Roe
January 23, 2008
On the 35th anniversary of the Supreme Court's historic Roe vs. Wade abortion ruling, the Roe of that landmark legal case endorsed libertarian turned Republican Rep. Ron Paul for president. Paul, a 10-term Texas congressman from the Houston area, is a 72-year-old Air Force veteran and ob-gyn who has surprised many political observers with the fervor of his bands of followers, not to mention his campaign's fundraising prowess that has outshined other Republican so-called front-runners.
"Jane Roe," whose real name is Norma McCorvey, turned against abortion a decade ago. In her endorsement Tuesday she said, "I support Ron Paul for president because we share the same goal, that of overturning Roe v. Wade. He has never wavered....
on the issue of being pro-life and has a voting record to prove it. He understands the importance of civil liberties for all, including the unborn."
Yes, American Right to Life sees Ron Paul, the champion of both life and the Constitution, as an enemy. They rather support candidates who will turn around and burn them, ignoring the plight of the unborn.
And who else does American Right to Life hate?
Sarah Palin, of course.
Do not support American Right to Life! They aren't about life at all ... they are only about the power of the State!
