The economic crisis that plagues our nation has only begun. Yet, with the federal government and most states facing insolvency, and Americans losing jobs en masse, the drumbeats for war grow louder by the day.
Programming Note
Foreign policy is not unique to any other government policy. Opposing foreign policy is not any different than opposing healthcare policy for example, neither of which btw, makes one "unAmerican." Nothing should cause one greater pause than going to war. It is a decision of human life or death. "Nation-building" and "spreading democracy" are both progressive ideologies and not rooted in America's heritage. And nationalism is NOT patriotic.
War with Iran: A Skeptical View
We are not experiencing just another cyclical recession, nor even a "double-dip." Our economy, built on illusions created by paper money backed by nothing, is heading towards a frightful and historic crash. The same is true for most of the world's developed economies too. If you think the populace is angry now, just you wait, 'cause it only gets worse from here.
The Ruling Class, who are directly responsible for the financial meltdown, have found themselves in the people's cross hairs. The legitimacy of their rule is on shaky ground. Because it's human nature to look for others to blame when things go awry, the Ruling Class needs an enemy to distract the masses, and let's face it, there's nothing like war to distract the people from their own misery ... while looking to politicians, the complicit perpetrators of their misery, as their Patriotic Leaders instead to boot. A pattern governments have followed all throughout history.
Sound crazy? Well, if you learned anything at all from TARP, bailouts, and stimulus, you should have learned that politicians do not listen to the people, lie, and will always protect their own interests above anything else. To believe otherwise is to be a child. A war with Iran will not be an accidental or defensive situation It's a pre-planned design, I believe, to allow the Ruling Class to survive in luxury, while the rest of us suffer.
Again, this lesson has been taught time and time again, all throughout history. Until someone can provide proof that American politicians are endowed with special DNA making them angels, I'll base my opinions on history, not blind trust in "leaders." As Lord Acton said:
And remember, where you have a concentration of power in a few hands, all too frequently men with the mentality of gangsters get control. History has proven that.
War with Iran: High Risk Roulette
War with Iran presents serious risks both at home and abroad. Once again, the federal and most state governments are effectively insolvent. Since an insolvent government cannot provide for a “strong national defense,” and war with Iran would be very expensive, it could literally bring America to its knees. We might as well put our future on "red to win," and spin the roulette wheel!
Since September 11, 2001, the Leviathan has boldly infringed our rights, telling us (as governments always do) that its for our own good. It matters not that they had all the information and warning they needed to stop the awful terrorist attack on that fateful day, the Leviathan lusts for control.
Our government, who has targeted Tea Parties btw, can now capture and hold indefinitely any citizen it deems a risk, assassinate American citizens abroad without due process, and derive torture-induced “confessions.” Not only have we been threatened with Martial Law recently, but legislation to build holding camps has been proposed too. You say it can't happen here? Japanese-Americans might respectfully disagree. The history of war is a history of lost rights.
Yes my friends, war with Iran puts what's left of our liberty at risk along with our financial stability ... which should scare the hell out of you!
Foreign policy does not exist in a vacuum without consequence either. Our military superiority does not mean foreign agents sit and eat crow while we do what we please. It is pure fantasy to believe that "getting tough" accomplishes something. The real world simply doesn't work that way.
For example, after more than 100 years of peace and cooperation with Iran, the CIA in 1963, overthrew the popular and democratically elected administration of Mohammed Mossadegh, and replaced him with the Shah of Iran, a brutal dictator who terrorized the Iranians with SAVAK, his secret police. This not only earned us the4 nickname "Great Satan," but resulted in the 1979 hostage crisis. After Ronald Reagan ordered the bombing of Libya in retaliation of Qaddafi's bombing of a Berlin discotheque in 1986, Qaddafi retaliated by blowing up Pan Am 103, killing 270 innocent men, women and children in 1979. Bill Clinton bombed a Sudanese pharmaceutical plant ... Do you really believe these actions have no consequence?
Going abroad "in search of monsters to destroy" does indeed create new monsters. Even former deputy secretary of defense Paul Wolfowitz admits that putting U.S. Troops in Saudi Arabia was "Osama bin Laden's principal recruiting device" (An Architect of War Draws Blueprint for Peace, Los Angeles Times, April 13, 2003). According to the Pentagon's own think tank, the Defense Science Board, our Wilsonian foreign policy has "elevated the authority of the Jihadi insurgents and tended to ratify their legitamacy among Muslims" ( Report of the Defense Science Board Task Force on Strategic Communication, September 2004, p. 40).
There's no foreign policy free lunch. There's always a price to pay. Blowback. Expect Iran to retaliate.
What happens? Missile strikes on Tel Aviv? Heavy artillery fire from Hezbollah? How many innocents have to die? With Israel under heavy fire, the United States will of course "have" to jump in, right? Isn't that why 47 House Republicans just signed on to H.R. 1553 declaring unequivocal "support for Israel's right to use all means necessary to confront and eliminate nuclear threats posed by Iran ... including the use of military force?" What happens if they shut down the Strait of Hormuz? Can the average American afford to pay $4-6 per gallon of gas?
Israel could probably destroy the nuclear power plant at Bushehr, the Arak reactor and the the enrichment center at Natanz, but they won't get to them all. Then there's Iran's missile sites, air force, and navy ...
The U.S. would have to take out Iran's 14 airfields plus all their warplanes, hit every launch sites and missile factory, and sink all their warships, submarines, and 200+ missile, patrol and speedboats that are busily at work dropping mines that will damage oil tankers as well as our warships. Iran's Silworm anti-ship missiles will prove to be a serious threat to our warships and oil tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz too. Again, a sure-fire recipe to send the price of oil to the moon.
The IRGC Qods Force will probably cross the border into Iraq to kill U.S. soldiers and civilians. Same goes for as Afghanistan. U.S. citizens in Lebanon and the predominantly Shia Bahrain, home of the U.S. Fifth Fleet, will be under immediate danger. Speaking of Shia, whose side do you think Shia Iraq will take? Let's not forget other asymmetrical forms of warfare too, such as terrorist attacks on American intelligence bases and other regional assets. Terrorist attacks on Israel, Iraq, and America right here at home.
Conservative?
Conservative my ass! Just 3 years ago, 16 U.S. intelligence agencies said Iran gave up its desire to build nuclear bombs back in 2003. IF, and it's a big IF, Iran is "on the verge of becoming nuclear," the entire U.S. intelligence community should be fired for their previous incompetent failure. Besides, IF there's hard evidence that Iran is building a bomb, where is it? And why aren't they demanding U.N. inspectors be let in? Like it or not, we all know that's standard protocol.
Attacking Iran over a nuclear bomb that doesn't even exist is the riskiest, most radical idea I've heard come out of Washington in a long time, perhaps forever, and they've come up with some doozies. Even more spectacular is the fact that it's Republicans who are pushing for this war. A decade of war isn't enough? Didn't they lose in 2006 and 2008 despite their lust for war too? It just goes to show you Washington is a one-party town, run by and for the exclusive benefit of the Ruling Class.
Nefarious motives may be a disturbing revelation for those of you who believe in government benevolence and political purity. Especially when those motives are pinned on your favorite "team." But a sober review of the Big Picture – government insolvency, severe economic crisis, corporatist economy, global governance, rapidly declining liberties ... add up to one logical conclusion ... war with Iran is bread and circus for the masses.

I think that science education in this country has been dumbed down so they can get away with this kind of this. A nuclear reactor does not equal a nuclear bomb. One requires 3% nuclear material and the other 80%.
Iran is a much bigger country than either Iraq or Afghanistan. Given that our troops are exhibited record level stress as shown in suicides and AWOLs, this would be an exercise in insanity.
When you research the CIA, you find that they used the religious fervor of radical Islamists to combat Communism, or so they said. It's so ironic that just about every dissident group the CIA trained from the Mujaheddin to the Zetas of Mexico, they seem to turn on us -ergo Blowback.
I believe the Ground Zero Mosque is nothing but a propaganda publicity stunt designed to direct American angst at generic Muslims, and make us more willing to take on Iran. The funny thing is, as I've been blogging about, is that Muslims aren't contributing to this Mosque, it's those darn tax-exempt foundations and CFR types who are footing the bill. The same ones that seem to want a war with Iran.
My theory is that Iran and it's economy is one of the few left in the world that is not in the central bankster's ledger book. The WHOLE world must be dominated, don't you know?
If it weren't for the CIA and their meddling, Iran might still very well be a democracy - how dare they actually want to own their natural resources!
The modern day progressive movement is coming to an end CL. And the one thing history tells us is that when the progressives are driven back into the shadows and always ends badly.
What could go wrong if the Iranians got nukes. They have proven that they are trustworthy folks who agree to live and let live with Israel and the west. No, wait, what?
When is the last time Iran started a war? Also, as Persians, not Arabs, what are Iran's risks of building the bomb? It would certainly cause them a great deal of problems. Personally, I think the evidence suggests they're not building the bomb, but instead, this is all Ruling Class bread and circus for the masses ... To make sure the People focus on the enemy "over there," instead of focusing on our true enemy, the perpetrators of our economic crisis - the Ruling Class in Washington DC.
Just considering the severe economic damage that Democrats and Republicans created alone, provides enough evidence to not believe a word they say in regards to any matter. Why believe proven liars?
Besides, once the Treasury bubble bursts and war with Iran brings a terrorist attack or 2 to our soil, American global dominance and what remains of our freedom at home will come to an abrupt end.
Iran started a war with us when they took the hostages in the Carter administration - but Jimmy didn't have the nuts to fire back. I would have given them a nuclear ultimatum the first day; then their terrorists wouldn't have messed with us since.
Anyone who knows Muslim culture knows that force is the only thing they respect. Try to govern them in accordance with our concept of due process (as we did in Iraq before the handover) and they'll laugh at you. We have to give 'em something they can't laugh at.
The incident you state was the foretold "blowback" from our CIA throwing out Iran's democratically elected government in 1953 and putting in the Shah. The Shah, by the way had his own secret police that made people "disappear" and his own brand of tyranny. The fact that he was a puppet for the central banks was also obvious to the Iranians, who turned to a more hardcore Muslim faith for courage and solace. To say that we were just innocently over there minding our own business and the mean old Iranians kidnapped hostages is beyond naive.
