The tax code is so complex, we've birthed an entire industry of professional tax-preparers. Why is it so complex? Well, obviously, extortion - the lifeblood of any oppressive regime.
In fact it's so complex, the the IRS commissioner can't figure out how to file his own income taxes.

During an interview on C-SPAN's "Newsmakers" program that aired on Sunday, Shulman said he uses a tax preparer for his own returns.
"I've used one for years. I find it convenient. I find the tax code complex so I use a preparer," Shulman said.
About a month ago, a friend and I were discussing the IRS and the mafia. Think about it, if you pay protection money to the local boss, both the streets and your property remain safe. You know how much you owe, don't have to fill out any forms, and everyone will keep their end of the deal.
Sure, they're taking your money by force, but so is the government!
Try not paying your taxes, then ignore your summons to court. Soon a couple of armed tax-eaters (wearing "official" costumes) will come knocking on your door demanding possession of your property!
The IRS demands that you provide them with records of your income, how it was produced, and all sorts of personal information. Most of this information you wouldn't share with a family member, let alone some stranger (in the IRS bureaucracy).
The mafia doesn't need that kind of extensive information on you. It's a waste of time!
