Activism

It was interesting to hear the "Ron Paul Question" asked at the Americans for Tax Reform-sponsored debate for chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC). Even more so, were the candidates answers to the question.

Video and analysis below the fold.

The Question: In light of the success of Ron Paul and the Campaign for Liberty in attracting large numbers of activists to the Ron Paul campaign and to conservative causes, what have you done to reach out to Ron Paul voters, and what will you do as chairman to make sure that the Ron Paul voters remain or become Republican voters?

Y’all like that spaghetti western music? Here is a classic.

Synopsis

Architect Paul Murdoch split his giant Crescent of Embrace memorial to Flight 93 into two separate arcs at the top, in effect creating two separate crescents:

Now that 2008 has come and gone ... Barack Obama has been elected our next president, the incompetence of Congress (with the help of the Federal Reserve) has created a massive financial scare, and thanks to the prodding of President Bush, Congress has virtually nationalized the financial, auto, newspaper, on and on, industries ... but there is still hope!

Our political landscape has never been more threatening ... The Democratic and Republican Parties have gone socialist, and with so many convinced that "we the people" only have them as our only two choices ... it's easy to loose heart, raise the white flag, prepare for the worst ... and forget how good we have it in America.

The Classic Liberal Blog can be a tough place at times.  There's simply no sticking to the party ...

Being a typical late shopper, I had to run out and pick up a few more things yesterday, being that today is Christmas Eve and tomorrow is Christmas.

Thanks to the global warming that Prophet Algore continually preaches, we got an extra foot or so of snow, dragging my "quick trip" to the store, into a very long, boring day.
editor's note: if my above reference to Christmas offended you in any way, the only thing I can tell you is ... grow-up, get a backbone ... you're way too sensitive.  Keep a stiff upper lip, and get over it!

Was that sensitive enough for you?

Oh ... laugh a little ... will you?  Besides, there's a lesson in this post for everyone!

If Republicans are serious about rebuilding the party, they should listen closely to the advise of Jesse Walker ...

While thinking about how to rebuild the Republican Party, I keep asking myself a few questions, mainly:

What does it mean to be Republican?
What does it mean to be "conservative?"
Does "winning" matter?

The first two questions I'll leave for another post, but I'll share my thoughts on the third question now.

To begin with, of course winning matters! Without electing people to office who will champion our cause, it will cease to exist as nothing more than an intellectual exercise.  BUT ... winning ... it certainly matters WHAT wins, and not just WHO ... doesn't it?

You already know what happened, and you've already heard dozens of pundits tell you why.  From what I've read, the mainstream "conservative" pundits seem to think McCain/Palin didn't appeal enough to the "middle of the road" voters ... the supposed "centrists" and "independent" voters.

Many Republican "insiders" are blaming Sarah Palin, the woman who drew record attendance and television viewership.  And in continuation of the "markets are dead" mantra, many in the mainstream media are excitedly proclaiming that conservatism is DEAD too.

They're wrong.

Now some straight talk ...

All across America and with great enthusiasm, conservatives are talking about rebuilding the party.  It gives me hope as I listen and read the many ideas, and it should give you hope too.  BUT ... it's not gonna be easy.  And it may ... be next to impossible.  Here's why:

David Talbot wrote an interesting article in Salon.  Well ... actually it's a lame attempt "hit piece" on Sarah Palin, so let's take a look at his charge that Sarah and Todd Palin are "un-American".  The article starts off with this:
The Palins' un-American activities
"My government is my worst enemy. I'm going to fight them with any means at hand."
This was former revolutionary terrorist Bill Ayers back in his old Weather Underground days, right? Imagine what Sarah Palin is going to do with this incendiary quote as she tears into Barack Obama this week.
Only one problem. The quote is from Joe Vogler, the raging anti-American who founded the Alaska Independence Party. Inconveniently for Palin, that's the very same secessionist party that her husband, Todd, belonged to for seven years and that she sent a shout-out to as Alaska governor earlier this year. ("Keep up the good work," Palin told AIP members. "And God bless you.")
AIP chairwoman Lynette Clark told me recently that Sarah Palin is her kind of gal. "She's Alaskan to the bone ... she sounds just like Joe Vogler."

Is this an act of treason as Talbot charges?  Let's take a look ...

Oh boy ... yes indeed! The politicians are going to come to the rescue!

The Washington Elite promise ...

This is Part 2 of my response to Terry Michael's "The Libertarian Case for Obama".  You can read Part 1 here.
"Obama is the best hope for keeping government out of your bedroom and away from your body ... the senator from Illinois represents the pro-choice, pro-gay rights side of the cultural divide. And he has at least made interesting soundings about reducing America's status as the world's number one jailer, much of which is tied to ... crimes without victims."

Terry opens with a good sales tactic - using of very broad language that  allows the reader to interpret it as they wish it to be when he states, "Obama is the best hope for keeping government out of your bedroom ...".

Let's face it ... this statement could mean almost anything!  Seriously, who wants a paramilitary police raid on your bedroom during that rare night you and your spouse are alone without the kids?
