Troll the NSA

2013-09-21

Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux, recently revealed that NSA tried to corrupt him. They wanted him to build a special NSA back-door into the Linux operating system. Writing to Becky Akers, a reader notes the obvious, "This is more evidence the NSA cares nothing about the regime's stated enemies or terrorists. All it cares about is spying on common Americans, and it doesn't care if the Russians, Chinese, Iranians and Israelis do the same."

Whether John Ashcroft's "new paradigm" or Barack Obama's "new normal," it doesn't really matter. Because neither is friendly to freedom. In fact the whole massive spying apparatus that presently captures and stores "the content of trillions of telephone conversations, texts and emails, and can access that content at the press of a few computer keys" proves beyond doubt that the U.S. federal government is openly hostile to freedom today.

So how about joining in a little civil disobedience?

It's Rule 5 Sunday!

"The State is not some beneficent body of men and women devoted to public service who are unselfishly acting on behalf of the welfare of Americans. Barack Obama, Dianne Feinstein, John Boehner, Harry Reid, John Roberts, David Petraeus, Keith B. Alexander, Robert Mueller, and Michael Hayden are not saints. They are not even close … If there is one thing we can be sure of, it is that men and women in the U.S. government have immense power to do many evil and foul deeds, and they have done them, and they will continue to do them."

Jared Marcum, a 14-year old eighth grade honor student, is staring down the possibility of spending his next year in jail … for the crime of wearing an NRA t-shirt.

You see, according to "our" brave pansy-assed men in blue, Marcum "almost incited a riot." Like, OMG!

It's Rule 5 Sunday!

"As Western Civilization is swept into the dust-bin of history, it is crucial for us to ask: what will replace it? What values, moral principles, economic understanding, and social practices will prevail in the future? You will not hear these questions asked by any of the establishment hacks – who will confine themselves to refashioning statism in a "new and improved" package … They will continue to entertain us with trivia from the lives of the political sinners, but will not explore either the causes of, or the alternatives to, what brought down our freer and more prosperous culture … their minds do not work in any transcendent, principled manner. It is power, and power alone, that both impresses and motivates them."

The National Security Agency (NSA) has been monitoring the telephone and Internet records of Americans. Which means "The right of [millions of people] to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects has been violated, and will continue to be violated, without probable cause or any reasonable suspicion of wrongdoing.

But have no fear. Hugh Hewitt and other "conservatives" have come to the NSA's rescue. "Wait a minute, we are in a war," they say.

If you know only one bit of legal advice, make it this one. Seriously.

Don't. Talk. To. The. Police.

It's Rule 5 Sunday Monday!

"Drug prohibition is a burden on taxpayers. It is a burden on government budgets. It is a burden on the criminal justice system. It is a burden on the health care system. The economic crisis has intensified the pain from all these burdens. Legalization reduces or eliminates all of these burdens. It should be no surprise that alcohol prohibition was repealed at the deepest depths of the Great Depression."

It's Rule 5 Sunday Monday!
"This isn't to say that stop-and-frisk doesn't have its place. It could be an invaluable tool for protecting New Yorkers and Americans in general — provided cops use it correctly. But they'll need to move their gangs of rapists from tenements and poor neighborhoods to the halls of legislatures, bureaucracies, governors' mansions, the White House, courts, and Congress."
