Every compliment is a great compliment, but I've always thought the following really captures the essence of this blog.
CL provides good analysis and humor, from an individual point of view. There are plenty of cookie cutter hack sites on the web. That is why it is refreshing to view his style and insight on current events.
Consider it a grown-ups blog. - Jason, The Western Experience
When I first read it I said to myself, "wow, Jason gets it." What do I mean?
I view everything from "an individual point of view." That's why, despite my insistence that I'm a conservative, my opinions often differ from mainstream conservatism. But I can promise you this, my reasoning is always firmly rooted in conservative (libertarian) philosophy.
Coffee Talk
The above background information was provided to give you a perspective from which to read this blog, and the rest of the post. The traditional Democrat/Republican paradigm doesn't provide the framework necessary to defend the individual liberty which made America great. "We the people" vs. the Government" makes a lot more sense!
We as individuals (and as a society), cannot continue to ignore the many harsh realities staring us in the face. "We the people" have been had! As conservatives, we're well aware of the damage the Democrats have wrought. But there's a dark skeleton in the conservative closet too. His name is George W. Bush. More than a cleansing of the Republican Party, each individual conservative needs a cleansing of the soul.
One of the great attributes of a conservative is his ability to accept the world as it is, not as he wishes it to be. Prior to Barack Obama, George W. Bush expanded the size and scope of government at a greater pace than any other president in history! "Compassionate conservatism" was in fact, a progressive agenda. Yet to this day, many "conservatives" continue to cheer him on.
If Bush's rapid expansion of the government isn't enough to tell you who the man truly is, what about TARP, buying banks, and auto company "bailouts?" And don't give me any messianic claims about how he "saved" us from economic disaster or terrorism either. You're in the no blind-faith zone here.
The conservative creed should be NEVER TRUST THE GOVERNMENT.
In the real world, politicians are far from perfect. Our Founding Fathers insisted that due to man's imperfections, no one ought to be trusted with power. They were right. But over the last 100 years, "we the people" have incrementally given these imperfect men more and more power instead. We even refer to them as our "leaders" (Thomas Jefferson just threw-up in his mouth).
Never trust the government. They want your soul.
