California State Assembly Speaker Karen Bass (Democrat) Hates Free Speech!
In an interview with the L.A. Times, Speaker Karen Bass was asked about conservative talk radio:
How do you think conservative talk radio has affected the Legislature's work?
The Republicans were essentially threatened and terrorized against voting for revenue. Now [some] are facing recalls. They operate under a terrorist threat: "You vote for revenue and your career is over." I don't know why we allow that kind of terrorism to exist. I guess it's about free speech, but it's extremely unfair.
Let me sum her answer up for you: In America, where we're supposed to have a government "of the people, by the people, for the people," Karen Bass believes "the people" exercising their right to support (or not support) politicians and policies, based on their own free will, is terrorism! So if you don't support, or worse (in her mind), actively campaign against politicians who don't persue the people's will, you're nothing more than a suicide bomber.
Furthermore, since Karen Bass feels the government is not "of the people, by the people, or for the people," she "[doesn't] know why we allow" free political speech and (obviously) those stinkin' elections in the first place. In Karen Bass' world ... only the Omnipotent Legislators know what's best.
H/T Newsbusters and Hit & Run!
While we're here, let's take a closer look at a couple of the other things she said during the interview ... For starters, there's this little tid-bit from the above quote:
You vote for revenue and your career is over.
What she meant to say was, "You vote for tax increases and your career is over." As it should be in America, Madam Speaker.
What do most Californians misunderstand about the mess that we're in now?
California is one of three states that [requires] a two-thirds vote to pass a budget. That causes paralysis. I don't think people realize that the Legislature only has control over 10% of the budget, and that the people contributed to gridlock through the initiative process. People don't realize that we have a tax system that is outdated.
Stupid Californians ... don't you know it's just too damn hard for politicians to spend your money and tax you to death? "Gridlock" may save you, the taxpayer, but it sure does make things difficult for the Omnipotent Legislators. How do you expect them to overcome those "outdated" tax rates to raise them?
Do you get especially exasperated when your own people -- Democrats -- don't agree with you?
You know, I was a community activist, so I'm used to standing out in front of an elected official's office and protesting. It's only been five years since I've been on the other side. I get frustrated when we're in the middle of the deepest recession since the Depression and people say, "You really shouldn't cut." This is very, very painful. I'm doing the exact opposite of what I ran for office for. But I do have to be an adult in this situation. My job is to protect [programs], but I can't be unrealistic and say, "We're not going to cut."
Ahhh, but of course, a community activist! Go figure.
Karen believes her "job is to protect [programs]" ... which says it all! She doesn't even understand her job. Karen honey, Madam Speaker, your job is to protect the people of California, from the government of California!
However, you clearly see it the other way around.
I've got news for ya Karen ... the California government going belly-up, would be a lot less painful for the people of California, than it would be if they went belly-up themselves.
Madam Speaker Karen Boss obviously has a lot to learn ... in the meantime, it'd be wise for the California electorate to vote her out!
