This shooting may be connected to other mass violence incidents including other shootings. There is a problem of human physiology discovered when it caused mental breaks for office workers. The cubicle was designed to deal with what engineers think is a harmless nuisance in the design of crowded office workspace.
Other shooters have created the "special circumstances" for Subliminal Distraction exposure. SD is explained as a normal feature of physiology in first semester psychology under psychophysics. That is the physiology of sight, subliminal sight, and peripheral vision reflexes.
Did the Ft. Hood shooter do the same thing? What type of computer did he have? Did he use it where there was repeating movement in peripheral vision?
The Army is unaware such a problem exists. They blame PTSD on the stress of combat situations. When Corps. of Engineers soldiers building the ALCAN highway in Canada began to have psychotic breaks the Army failed to connect those mental events to others in combat situations. Had that been investigated the problem might have been solved. As it is the only time in human history this problem was discovered was in the 1960's.
Those designers, engineers, and human factor scientists did not understand what they discovered. No one connected Subliminal Distraction exposure to mental illness or even Culture Bound Syndromes.
