Attracting comments is hard! I often wonder the same thing, people visit, they read, and they leave. And I don't abuse my commenters like a lot of bloggers do. Just this morning I left a comment on a guy's post praising the Time Magazine cover of Obama looking burdened (the picture was created out of typographical elements spelling the issues facing his presidency). I benignly said "If he's overburdened he shouldn't have asked for the job". The blogger launched a tirade at me for wanting Obama to be "impeached" and saying politics shouldn't be injected into "art".

Does anyone think that I'll bother to comment on that wanker's blog again?

Yeah, I'll debate and argue, that's what we're all here for. But you won't find me taking cheap shots at anyone like your example. I don't delete or ban opposing opinions either. Why would I? But you're right! It's hard to get the comments going. Maybe people don't like going first.

Oh man, the "deleters" are even worse! You put some thought into a response and poof! it disappears into a black hole. There's a columnist at our local paper who does that; if you don't agree with him he deletes your comment from their web site. And of course we all know about LGF and Mad King Charles!

Another deleter is LawHawk at "At Blog for All".

Back in 2007 I had the misfortune of encountering a bunch of "libertarians" (that's what they called themselves) at a now defunct blog called "The Line is Here". Ugh. "Hazel Stone" and "Ted Bronson" just thought that they were All That. One day they got an Instalanche on a post ridiculing a deaf boy from Long Island who wanted to bring his service dog to school. The school district said no.

I left a comment disagreeing with them. Well! I got lambasted for "peeing on their living room floor". It was Their Blog and Their Rules and Rule #1 was Thou Shalt Not Disagree With Hazel or Ted! The level of venom was so severe that I almost quit blogging (I was a noob back then).

        No wonder they're defunct.
