In reference to President Barack Obama's birth certificate, on December 8, 2008 I said:
In my opinion, Barack Obama is more than likely a natural citizen of the United States.
With that said ... I still think the "birthers" have a legitimate gripe!
Let me remind you that Barack Obama works for us, as in "we the people." America is a constitutional republic. We are not a dictatorship nor even a democracy. This means that the president, whomever it may be, is not our "leader," but merely our employee. He has no more "rights," than any person on Earth.
The United States of America is a country ruled by law, not men, and our Constitution is the supreme law of the land. Article 2, Section 1, Clause 5 of the Constitution of the United States says:
No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.
Being that Barack Obama has NOT provided his true "long-form" birth certificate (which includes things like the name of the birth hospital and attending physician), is it really so unreasonable for the people who have hired him as the President of the United States, to want to see his birth certificate?
No. No it isn't.
This all started when Pennsylvania Democrat and attorney Philip J. Berg filed suit in U.S. District Court last year, claiming that Obama is not a natural-born U.S. citizen, and therefore is not eligible to be elected president.
Both the DNC and Obama campaign, immediately sent lawyers out to get the case dismissed. That both sent their attorney's out to battle the lawsuit, raises serious questions. Why try to silence someone, when all you have to do is present your full birth certificate?
Hawaiian officials have not validated Obama's place of birth either. All they have said is that they "have the original document" on file. They haven't offered any of the information on that document. In fact, they can't do so without a court order and/or permission from "the One" himself (as it should be).
So why all the secrecy?
What about his college records, Harvard Law Review articles, University of Chicago and Illinois State Senate records ... and the list goes on ... What is it about Obama that has to remain so secret?
I know, I know ... that "birther" stuff is crazy talk! What will The Republicans Who Really Matter think? Nobody wants to be unpopular or anything ... I guess we're all still in high school. Of course, I've never been popular, so maybe that's why this doesn't bother me like it does others.
But, but, "we have real issues we can defeat Obama on ..."
Yes, there's an endless list, so who's stopping you? It's a free country! Just ignore the "birthers!" Go and get on about what matters to you! Nobody's holding a gun to your head and demanding you participate in "paranoid conspiracy theories." Any claim that they're getting in your way, is nothing but a cop-out.
Like I said at the beginning of this post, I think Obama is most likely a natural citizen of the United States. Yet, I talk about all sorts of things on this blog without the "birther" movement getting in my way. I don't even know how they could!
And I doubt anyone believes the birth certificate is some kind of "magic bullet" either. If they do, well, then that's their own problem.
This one's all up to Obama. If the guy wasn't so suspiciously secret, the whole issue would be dead. So, until "the One" mans-up and releases the document, leave the "birthers" alone!

Speaking of precedents … what type of precedent does allowing Obama to skate on this issue set? Back during the campaign, McCain had to jump through some hoops, due to being born on a military base in Panama. So why is it so wrong then, to ask the same of Obama?
In regards to Democrats trying to paint “birthers” as some weird right-wing thing … they can only be successful, as long as the Democrats continue to control the conversation (which they have, sadly, my entire lifetime).
One of the first things any good salesman learns, is how to effectively control the conversation. There’s nothing diabolical about this, it’s nothing more than keeping the conversation focused and on track.
Politics, is nothing more than salesmanship. So in this context, labels like “crazy birthers” and “teabaggers,” are nothing more than objections. A good salesman never goes into a defensive position, by making excuses or agreeing with the objection. Instead, he stays focused, even turning the objection into an advantage.
What is it about “birthers,” that causes the Left to reject them? This is the question folks on the right need to concern themselves with, not trying to distance themselves from “birthers.” Is it because they don’t believe being a natural citizen matters? Is it because Obama’s a Democrat?
And therein lies the answer to controlling the conversation … because he who is asking the questions, controls the conversation. It works the same way with hurling accusations …
I would not consider myself a ‘birther’ [I, too, believe he meets the Constitutional requirements], but like Andrew McCarthy, the fact that he will not provide such a simple thing as his birth certificate makes me wonder what the hell else the man is hiding. Perhaps he is worried that giving in on this point, he have set a precedent and the pressure will really be on to release his college transcripts, etc.
I’ve thought about that, and if true, indeed it seems to be a good play by Obama. But in reality, only those pre-conditioned to hate the right, will actually believe it involves the entire conservative movement.
The problem is though, that they do have a legitimate gripe! Without actual proof, nobody can say for certain either way. Besides, if you think about it, “birthers” have far less ability to hurt the conservative movement, than say Megan McCain, David Frum, or Rich Lowry (progressives in sheep’s clothing).
Oh, and the “birther” thing is pretty strong on the left too.
For the second day I find myself with a somewhat contrary opinion.
Who loves the birthers most? Barack Obama! he hopes they will gather momentum, make a lot of headlines, and draw in a lot of followers. Only then will he produce his birth certificate. And he’ll do it in a way that casts the entire Conservative movement as loonies with nothing of substance to talk about.
