James O’Keefe … Busted!

theCL  2010-01-27  Activism, Freedom

So activist James O'Keefe got himself arrested ...

There's really not a whole lot of information as to exactly what happened yet, but James O'Keefe was in Senator Mary Landrieu's office when 2 other men, Robert Flanagan and Joseph Basel, showed up in telephone repairman costumes to allegedly wire-tap her phones.

James O'Keefe is most well-known for his work with Hannah Giles on the ACORN prostitution sting.

Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) is best known for her $300 billion backroom health care deal.

The Accusation:

ACORN "Exposer" James O'Keefe and Buds Caught Playing "Watergate, Cajun Style"

My, for such a young age, he certainly has been a busy bee- seeing as he was the one who staged and filmed the ACORN "sting" last year...

But as fun as that one may be to bat around, my prediction is that the bigger story will be this- that William J. Flanagan's son Robert, a former intern for Representative Mary Fallin, R-OK, was also arrested.

It's all about the he said, she said, bull**** ...

Free the Landrieu Four!

Olbermann, Madow, and the rest of the gang were yucking it up last night over the prospect of caging, for 20 years, James O’Keefe, the kid who exposed ACORN, and his three friends. They are accused of dressing up like telephone repairmen and visiting LA senator Mary Landrieu’s government office in hopes of embarrassing her. To the Gulag, go!

Was this entrapment? The regime has wanted to destroy O’Keefe for showing up Obama’s favorite state-funded community group. In any event, these boys were imprudent at worst. Being Republican conservatives, they did not absorb the libertarian lesson that public property isn’t. Different rules apply to the state than hoi polloi. How dare they enter the holy sanctuary of Landrieu without due obeisance? And, preferably, a suitcase of cash.

My own view: since the feds can crowbar your money out of you, and use it to enter your house or office under false pretenses, to spy on you, listen to your phone calls, read your emails, go through your underwear drawer, etc. what’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. So I say, Free the Landrieu Four and all other political prisoners!

I agree with Rockwell! The government can do anything it wants to us, so hey ... What's good for the goose, is good for the gander.

People in government are NOT endowed with special rights. Free O'Keefe!

Other Opinions:

Mr. O’Keefe should have remembered the words of President Cleveland…

One doesn’t want to pre-judge a case but to say the least it doesn’t look good. There is no question that if they were trying to bug a Senator’s office that would be a federal offense.

As Ann Althouse’s commentator says O’Keefe deserves the gratitude of the nation for his Acorn expose, but lets be frank, if this had been a democrat breaking in to a republican’s office we would be all over him. A reasonable person would conclude that this stinks and stinks badly.

O’Keefe: “The truth shall set me free”

The boss is skeptical, as am I. Remember when I said earlier that their defense would likely be that they never really intended to tap any phones but were simply trying to show how easy it would be to do so? Well, er…

Louisiana Watergate: Landrieu Makes a Statement

[T]he Louisiana Democratic Party has issued an odd statement in which they seem to implicate Senator David Vitter in some nefarious doings:

This is a Louisiana Watergate. Louisiana families are shocked and outraged that these men would break the law to carry out their political agenda with this Watergate-like break-in and attempted wiretapping. Given his ties to some of the players involved, Sen. Vitter should immediately denounce the actions of these four men and anyone who may have instigated, supported or assisted them. We call on U.S Attorney Jim Letten to conduct a thorough investigation and to prosecute any wrongdoers to the fullest extent of the law.

The "ties to some of the players involved" remains unspecified ...

James O’Keefe Arrested in New Orleans

Statement from Andrew Breitbart:

“We have no knowledge about or connection to any alleged acts and events involving James O’Keefe at Senator Mary Landrieu’s office. We only just learned about the alleged incident this afternoon. We have no information other than what has been reported publicly by the press. Accordingly, we simply are not in a position to make any further comment.”

James O'Keefe Arrested

I'm trying to glean information on this O'Keefe Mary Landrieu office arrest and it's a tough call. There is simply a lot of information pouring in, a lot of conjecture, speculation and such, as one would expect. Bloggers, talkers and activists are running the gamut on this, calling it everything from an Eric Holder type setup to a Watergate potential blowup. I can only imagine that if O'Keefe were to go to this extreme and reckless of an action that he knew something incredibly dirty about Senator Mary Landrieu. I offer you that the paper shredders are running overtime in her Federal office basement at this point. I have no idea.

It saddens me to see such a (former) hero of mine (allegedly) break the law like this ...

We don't tow the company line around here. James O'Keefe, you're still a hero of mine! The Classic Liberal Blog approves of James O'Keefe!

James O’Keefe Arrested

If this is all true, pretty dumb move...

James O’Keefe, best known as the guy who posed as a pimp for undercover sting videos that badly damaged the credibility of ACORN, has been arrested for apparently trying to pull a sting on the office of Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) by placing bugs while dressed as a telephone company technician.

FBI Special Agent Steven Rayes alleges that O’Keefe aided and abbetted two others, Joseph Basel and Robert Flanagan, who dressed up as employees of a telephone company and attempted to interfere with the office’s telephone system.

Democrat Mary Landrieu recently made a $300 billion backroom deal with other people's money. Usually, that's called theft. But when done by our Washington Overlords, it's called "governing."

It looks to me like O'Keefe and his buddies were simply doing the job the FBI should already (yet never will) have done.

Free the Landrieu Four!
