I read the most disturbing news this morning in a post by Jason at The Western Experience:
Democrat pro-abortion Catholic state Rep. Jessica Ferrar is one of those. The Planned Parenthood MVP has introduced a bill dubbed the "Infanticide Bill". Its purpose is to decriminalize infanticide. In other words, make it only a felony to kill a baby less than a year old. It is the first and most radical of its kind to date.
Yes, you read that correctly. This isn't an abortion bill, it's about killing your child after he/she is born and taken home to be cared for. It's frightening to say the least.
The bill doesn't aim to legalize the murder of a child under 1-years old, but it does aim to substantially reduce sentencing for a mother who murders her child.
Here's more from Jason:
Infanticide would become a felony,The devolution is nearly complete. Since an infant is the most unproductive person on earth that is in constant need of protection, care, and attention surely its life isn't all that valuable. Should a parent really face life in prison or death for killing such a burden - an undesirable?
Has our society really lost all respect for life? This news has left me disturbed and without words, so here's what others are saying around the net.
Cassy Fiano provides the details:
Introducing Texas HB 3318, the first of its kind in the entire country, known as "the infanticide bill". It defines infanticide as:
A person commits an offense if the person wilfully by an act or omission causes the death of a child to whom the person gave birth within the 12-month period preceding the child's death
The bill says that infanticide should not be prosecuted as murder, though, as long as:
... at the time of the act or omission, the person's judgment was impaired as a result of the effects of giving birth or the effects of lactation following the birth.
Infanticide would become a felony, punishable by no more than two years in prison, with a minimum of 180 days, and/or a fine of no more than $10,000.
Are you sick to your stomach yet?
This bill was passed by the Texas State Criminal Jurisprudence Committee 7 to 1 on April 28th. It's currently on the way to the Calendars Committee.
Jill Stanek writes the following about this disturbing bill attempting to decriminalize infanticide:
The Infanticide Bill would decriminalize infanticide of babies under 1 year old from being a capital murder offense, punishable by life in prison or the death penalty, to 180 days to 2 years in jail and a fine not to exceed $10k, for mothers found to be suffering, in the court's opinion, severe post-partum depression.
A defendent would be eligible for this sentence if her "judgment was impaired as a result of the effects of giving birth or the effects of lactation following birth," wrote Ferrar in her legislative analysis.
While I empathize for mothers suffering this malady, it does not extend to dehumanizing their babies so killing them is any less heinous in the eyes of the court than killing older children.
After all, depression extends throughout the life spectrum. Why should infanticide be set apart as a more tolerated crime?
More from Stop The ACLU:
Is there a more despicable crime than murdering a baby? I mean, really... think hard. Murder is always appalling and deplorable and sickening. But no matter what, murdering a baby would be, in my book, the most disgusting, horrible thing a person could do. And in this particular situation, I'm not talking about abortion. I'm talking about a baby living independently, out of the womb, under the age of 1 year. Killing any child is evil, but to sink that low? A baby has no ability to defend themselves, no way to escape the horror that will be inflicted upon it. A baby cannot run away or fight back. A baby is completely reliant upon its parents to care for it, and for one of those parents to then murder it... is there anything more evil than that?
How anyone can think killing a 1-year old is a lesser crime than killing anyone else, is beyond me. Eugenics ... here we come!

Jason,
It’s a twisted world.
[...] Update: The Classic Liberal jumps in with simply, “Killing Babies” [...]
CL,
Can you believe people are actually defending this bill? Then again, it isn’t that surprising.
I’m with you! Life is precious. One (out of many) of the problems with decriminalizing the murder of an infant, is that once that becomes accepted, the life of the unborn will become completely trivialized.
On the pro-abortion side, they think it’s about the mother’s “right” to choose whether she wants to be pregnant, and be a mother or not. From my point of view however, it’s about whether the child deserves to live or not.
Every child deserves to live.
Yes, very true, but it’s no worse than killing a baby inside the womb, say one day before it is born, or two days, or three days or four days…
