The key point I was trying to make here, and I hope it comes across, is that it is up to us - "we the people" - not the party. We have different goals, hopes, and desires than the party itself. It can be commandeered, but conservatives are going to have to change their mind-set to do so.

Money talks. We can change the Republican party but it will have to be in the primaries... that's the hard part. I think a true Conservative, who could effectively gets his or her ideas across (like Reagan) would win a presidential election. They just have to get past all the republican moderates, aka the socialist-lite Republicans, in the primaries. I love the point about donating to the candidate, not the party. Money talks.
