By now, you've all seen the video Paris Hilton made in response to the John McCain ad.  Personally, I think it's her best work ever!

Hold the phone ... WHAT are you talking about?

The McCain ad correctly points out that the ONLY thing Obama has going for him is celebrity, but Paris points out something EVERYONE seems to be missing ... that drilling for more oil doesn't mean the end of research for new technologies!

There's a lot of oil available  RIGHT NOW in America! Also, there currently isn't a Magic Elixir that can create the energy our economy (and the rest of the world) needs.  Drilling for more oil in America will not only increase global oil production (lowering price), but would also make the United States a more powerful player in the oil markets (less dependent).

Russia, who just attacked Georgia (did they get UN approval first?) has enjoyed a booming economy in large part due to increased oil production.  Do we want to become oil dependent on them too?

Oil is REALITY. Right now, we need it.  It is what it is.  Congress needs to take immediate action to demolish the artificial barriers they've created against American's who want to drill for oil.  IF we wake up tomorrow or the next day to the news that someone has discovered a new, cleaner, better source of energy ... CONGRATULATIONS! It would be a benefit to us all!

People all over the globe have been searching for an alternative to oil, quite frankly, since before oil became so popular.  The search for energy production is as old as mankind.  Times change.  There will be a time when oil is an insignificant source of energy, but this is not a time we can forecast, nor is it something the government can simply MANDATE into existence.

The government does not possess a magic wand, nor do they have access to a genie in a bottle.  ATTACKING oil and oil producers solves nothing.  Handing out more corporate subsidies (investment in alternative fuels) won't turn the impossible into the possible.  The ONLY thing these "investments" do is take yet even more money out of every citizen's pocket.

Drilling for more oil is the only logical solution to America's energy needs.  Drilling is a REAL solution with proven results. Drilling for oil will increase American exports, and create new jobs.  Drilling is a win-win situation!

Drilling for oil will not stop research into new alternative energy sources, nor will it stop a new energy source from coming to market.  It also provides us more, cheaper energy, while new alternative sources are worked on.

NOT drilling, however, is but a wish and a prayer ... a dream ... a fantasy ... a roll of the dice.  Today, we need oil.  Now is not the time to be speculating our future on grand fantasies of Magic Elixirs.
