This short video does a great job of explaining the economics behind political lobbying.
"We the people" have to change the incentive system in Washington. An important step in accomplishing this would be to end corporate welfare.
Right now, our system of political lobbying amounts to nothing more than bribery.
The Political Economy of Lobbying
As Joshua, the computer, says in Wargames: "Strange game. The only winning move is not to play."
Bottom Line: Politicians benefit from lobbying; lobbyists compete to receive our money and rights; and citizens suffer. [I could soften this language to "some politicians" or "sometimes," but these are structural institutionalized flaws.]
You can't be free without a free market, and you can't have a free market where a government is selling power. The best way for "we the people" to end the corruption of the Washington political lobby, is to take away their ability to sell it in the first place.
A government with something to sell, will always sell it.
