Any job, no matter the source (including unemployment checks) puts money in local communities. Rent is paid, food is purchased so in turn boosting local economies. Sure a real job is better, but until the private sector hires again, what's a poor guy to do? Starve out on the street?

I'm all for the needy getting help, but if it goes through government, more than half gets wasted on the darn bureaucrats, and a lot of the rest gets wasted on people who don't need it but are following the strategy spelt out in Obama's bible ("Rules for Radicals" by Saul Alinsky), which is "take all the tax money you can, and we can destroy the capitalist system!"
If you want to help the poor, give to your church or United Way, and be sure to get a receipt; taxes are going way up next year.
@Russ: Right on! Lew is the nut who destroyed Ron Paul's candidacy by publishing racist newsletters in Paul's name. Every candidate on our side needs to know that before they grant him the ability to do it again.
