Bill Quick asks, "Can I Possibly Gag Down this Shit Sandwich?"

[W]ould you stop reading DP if I said I was going to vote for Romney, even though I know damned well that I'm falling prey to the eternal GOP ruling class scam, "Vote for our shit sandwich, he's not quite as bad as the Democrat mountain of shit?"

This is both an interesting topic and important question on which I'd usually write a long post. But I thought I'd try something different this time by reproducing my comment below.

I always think back to that famous Emma Goldman quote: "If voting changed anything, they'd make it illegal."

I may be more cynical than most, but I'm at a complete loss when it comes to finding any fundamental difference between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. They may differ in degree here and there, but they don't differ in kind. Both are statists with Keynesian plans [that will] drive us into economic oblivion. For that matter, both are the kind of rulers our founders waged war to escape.

All I ask is that the fedgov adheres to the constitution. In my 43 years however, Republicans sure haven't done a damn thing about it. In fact, they've made it acceptable for conservatives to love the state instead. Which is a major reason why I think 4 more years of Obama is less dangerous than 8 years of Willard Romney.

The movement that arose in opposition to the New Deal was unabashedly anti-state. You can't say that about the right today. When the right, in support of Romney, begins championing education bureaucracies, medicare bureaucracies, police state bureaucracies, et. al., again, as they did with GWB … What's left of the managerial state's opposition? And what does that mean for the future and our liberty?

We always want to "beat the Democrats" then get to limited government, free markets and liberty somewhere down the road. Can we finally admit that this strategery has been an utter failure? If not liberty now, then when? Now is as good a time as any.

I think you’'d be doing yourself and your countrymen a great service by writing in Donald Duck rather than voting Romney.
