Stupid Is As Stupid Does

And remember, where you have a concentration of power in a few hands, all too frequently men with the mentality of gangsters get control. History has proven that. - Lord Acton

Give a man an ounce of power, and soon you'll find him stomping on the rights of others.  In today's example, we have the Honorable Mayor Carty Finkbeiner, of His Majesties Kingdom Toledo, Ohio.

Here's what went down ... man parks his car in his own driveway (behind a closed fence I may add), an employee of the government Streets and Bridges Department then trespasses onto his property, and writes him a ticket for parking on an "unpaved surface."

You see ... "parking on unpaved surfaces -- including gravel driveways" is an illegal activity. Gravel, afterall, is a danger to society, and in His Magesty Finkbeiner's Kingdom, this is a heinous crime.

The reality is that this is nothing but Finkbeiner and the City Government abusing their ounce of power to collect money.  It's the same thing as racketeering.  But hey ... we let the Fed counterfeit money, why not let the government demand protection money too?

Of course, His Majesty Mayor Finkbeiner denies this has anything to do with money ... and to paraphrase Ryan at Right Juris, "I didn't take the cookies from the cookie jar either!"

Ryan also offers up my favorite quote of the story, regarding Finkbeiner he says:

Seems like an appropriate name don’t you think?

Yes, indeed!
